Mumbai, December 1: In a brutal case of murder, a Mumbai resident killed his 80-year-old mother at their residence in Borivali earlier this week and sat with her body for over seven hours. After killing his mother, the 53-year old man, identified as Yogesh Shenoy, went to the police and confessed the crime. Shenoy has been booked for murder under section 302 of the Indian Penal Code. According to a report by Hindustan Times, police said Shenoy must have been triggered to murder his mother due to financial issues and stress of taking care of his aged mother. The mother-son duo lived together in a chawl in Borivali. The report informs that Shenoy is estranged from his wife, and his father and brother passed away a few years ago. As per his confession to the Police, Shenoy gave his mother high dosage of sleeping pills and then smothered her with a pillow. When Lalita survived both these attempts, Shenoy slit her throat with a paper cutter. After killing her, he sat next to his mother’s dead body for seven hours straight and then called the police control room to report the incident. Shenoy is now in police custody. Senior police inspector of MHB Colony police station Pandit Thakare was quoted in the report saying that the murder took place because of the constant fights with his mother and due to her medical fees, which he was unable to manage. The man had left his job as an accountant at a hotel two months back to take care of his mother, Lalita. His mother had several health issues including blood pressure and spondylosis. Details by Police inform that Shenoy was facing a tough time managing his livelihood and was unable to afford his mother’s medication expenses. He was so broke that he did not pay the rent of the house for the past two years. He was also not able to afford Lalita’s medicines. After an investigation was launched following the murder, Shenoy’s landlord Darshana Ghone was quoted by HT saying that they were her tenants for decades now and they did not interact much with anyone in the neighbourhood.
