Three brothers running a coaching centre in South Mumbai have been booked by the Mumbai police for allegedly sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl over nearly two years. The girl reported that the brothers forced her to arrive early and stay late at the centre, where they repeatedly abused her.

Indian Express reported that the two brothers, aged 24 and 25, were arrested on Saturday after officials from a child development centre, where the victim confided in a counsellor in March, approached the police on Friday. The victim joined the coaching centre in 2022 after moving in with her mother following her parents’ divorce. She also started attending a new school but did not interact with teachers or students. Her mother noticed behavioural changes and admitted her to a child development centre in January 2023. The girl stopped attending the centre in May 2023 but rejoined in February 2024, eventually revealing the abuse to a counsellor in March. Despite her request to keep it confidential, the counsellor informed her mother, who initially refused to lodge a complaint.
Officials from the child development centre registered a case under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO), 2012. The girl and her mother’s statements were recorded, leading to the arrest of two brothers. The police are searching for the eldest brother.
The police are investigating whether other students at the coaching centre, which has 35-40 girl students, were also targeted. The two arrested brothers have been remanded in police custody
