Mumbai, October 9: Two men were arrested for allegedly raping a 25-year-old hearing and speech impaired woman in Mumbai. According to a tweet by ANI, the incident took place on October 6 in Thane. After being produced before a court, the accused have been sent to police custody. According to the Police, the accused, who were arrested on Monday, have been identified as Lakhan Kaale and his friend Sandip Kurhade (22), both residents of adjoining Thane.
Reports inform that the victim worked as a housemaid in a residential society in upscale suburb of Bandra (East). The incident came to light on Sunday afternoon when the woman suddenly disappeared after she went out of the housing society. According to a PTI report, when the woman did not return for a long time, her employer informed her parents who reside in Virar. As soon as the incident was reported, Police began an investigation into the matter and efforts were being made to locate the woman. The woman's mobile phone was active and it showed her location in Thane. According to police officials, the woman was found at the Dadar railway station along with Kurhade. After the woman described her ordeal to police in writing, Kurhade was taken in custody. During interrogation, it came to light that the woman was raped in a room in Thane.
Reports inform that an FIR under IPC sections 366 (kidnapping or inducing woman to compel her marriage), 376 (rape) and 34 (acts done by several persons in furtherance of common intention) was registered against both the accused.
