Mumbai, June 9: In a horrifying incident, a 17-year-old boy allegedly sexually assaulted an 11-year-old girl in his residence last month. The incident came to light after the minor victim confided in her elder sister, who then lodged a complaint with the police. As per the complaint filed by the victim, the accused attacked her after she refused to buy him a cigarette. Based on the complaint, the accused has been arrested and later sent to a juvenile home in Dongri.

As per a report by the Times of India, the juvenile, who is a neighbour of the victim's friend, was standing outside his residence when the girl, the youngest of three sisters, came out alone and started walking towards a shop. The juvenile then called the victim towards him and handed her Rs 20 to buy him a cigarette. As per the report, the juvenile was home alone when the incident happened. The terrified victim reportedly confided in her elder sister, who then took her to their eldest sister and narrated her ordeal. The 24-year-old, based on her sister's narration, filed a complaint with the police. Following the confirmation of medical reports, a case was registered under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO) 2012 and an investigation was launched. The juvenile, who is the elder brother of the victim's friend, had fled from his home after the assault, leading to a search operation. After the absconding juvenile was arrested, he was remanded at Dongri Children’s Home.
