Mumbai: Second AC Local to Have Increased Seating Capacity, Will Accomodate More Than 100 Passengers

The second AC local train in Mumbai will have a capacity of 100 more passengers compared to the first AC local train. The second AC local will also be the first Electric Multiple Unit (EMU) rake to be equipped with under-slung equipment. The unit is expected to reach Mumbai by December. The Indian Express in a report informed that the rake is being manufactured at the Integral Coach Factory (ICF), Chennai. The electrical equipments would be prepared by Hyderabad-based Medha Servo Drives. The manufacturing firm added that they will be several changes in the rake like better holding facilities and more space for luggage. A report in news agency PTI said that as temperatures in Mumbai have been rising over the past few days, commonly referred to as "October heat", the railways has seen an increase in ticket sales of the sole air-conditioned suburban train. The train plies on weekdays between Churchgate and Virar stations on WR's suburban network.

"The single journey tickets and season tickets have show a 60 per cent increase in the first 10 days of October when compared to the same period last month," the WR official was quoted by the news agency. (With Agency Inputs)
