Mumbai Government Offices Granted Half day Leave After Schools & Colleges Declare Holiday Amid Heavy Rains and Waterlogging
The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation(BMC) disaster management cell has announced high tide at 8:56 am of 3.69 metre and second high tide of the day at 8:19 pm of 3.62 metre. The Met department has recorded rainfall between 8:00 am to 8:30 am in Colaba - 170.6 mm, and in Santacruz - 122.0 mm.
Mumbai, July 9: All the schools and colleges in Mumbai have declared a holiday considering the heavy rainfall in the city for the past 36 hours. The incessant rains in Mumbai has led to waterlogging and problems in various parts of the city. The official Twitter handle of Directorate General of Information and Public Relations (DGIPR), Government of Maharashtra tweeted saying that all the governement and semi-government offices have been declared close post lunch as the rains refuse to die and modes of travelling become difficult with locals already running late and road traffic heavily affected due to the rains. Education Minister Vinod Tawde, tweeted earlier in the day saying "Precautionary holiday declared for schools, colleges in Mumbai Metropolitan Region for the safety of the students due to the heavy rainfall experienced in the city and the suburban areas. Heavy rains forecasted, every one is advised to stay safe." Here is the tweet by the Education Minister:
Earlier, videos shared by the netizen shows how the entire stretch of Godbunder, one of the prominent route is submerged under rainwater, adding to woes creating a massive traffic jam. The road connects central suburban and western suburban regions and considered one of the shortest route.
