Mumbai, August 4: With continuous rains submerging the maximum city for the last couple of days, the Maharashtra government declared holiday for all private and public schools and colleges in Mumbai on Monday. The state government and the BMC also informed that private and essential services will remain open.
Making the announcement in public interest, CMO Maharashtra took to Twitter and wrote, "Due to the IMD warning for tomorrow, holiday declared for schools & colleges in Mumbai & MMR, Palghar, Thane, Raigad districts." Also, BMC too made a similar announcement. It wrote, "All private and public schools and colleges will remain shut tomorrow. Some government offices providing emergency & essential services will remain open. Private office staff may move out only if essential."

Apart from making the announcement for shutting down schools and colleges in Mumbai and suburbs, CMO informed that all government and semi-government employees in MMR Region are allowed to report late on their duties. State CM Devendra Fadnavis even reviewed flood situations in Nasik, Pune and adjoining areas. It is to be known that the district administration in Nasik, Pune, Thane, Kalyan and Dombivli to remain shut on Monday.
Earlier, India Meteorological Department predicted that the situation like this is going to remain constant and the regions of Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh will receive heavy rainfall for the next 24 hours. As Mumbai is already on red alert, Met Dept's latest update is going to raise several eyebrows.
