Mumbai, July 26: The school education department in Maharashtra has given Principals the authority to relax by 15 days the minimum age requirement for Nursery and Class 1 admission. According to a Times of India report, from the 2015-16 academic year, the minimum age for admission to the nursery is three years and from the 2018-19 academic year, the minimum age for Class 1 admission is six years. Schools would often receive requests from parents who children have missed the September 30 deadline and they had to wait for another year. This 15 days relaxation comes as a huge respite for parents whose children have not yet completed six years at the time of admission. However, experts have always highlighted that parents should not insist that their children be enrolled before age.

According to a circular issued by Delhi government last year, the education department fixed an upper age limit of 4, 5 and 6 years as on March 31, 2019, for admission in the nursery, kindergarten (KG) and Class 1, respectively. The minimum age for admission in these classes is 3, 4 and 5 years as of March 31, 2019, respectively.
