Mumbai, October 25: A man travelling from Mumbai to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, was allegedly cheated of Rs 1.60 lakh after the cash he was carrying in his checked-in bag was stolen. An unknown person reportedly stole the cash from the passenger’s checked-in bag at the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International Airport (CSMIA).
Police officials said the victim was heading to Saudi Arabia. In his complaint, victim Mudassir Iqbal Sheikh (26), who was travelling to Saudi Arabia from Mumbai on October 7, said that USD 1,900, which is around Rs 1.6 lakh, was missing from his checked-in bag, reports the Hindustan Times. He said that the incident took place after he boarded a flight from the city to Riyadh. Sheikh, a resident of Nalasopara, told cops that one of his checked-in bags, which contained a pouch with the US dollars, was missing. He had handed over the check-in bag to the airline staff in Mumbai. However, he did not receive his bag when he deboarded the flight in Riyadh, along with his other luggage.
"The missing bag was handed to me three days later, on October 10," he said. The complainant said that when he checked for the cash, it was missing. He further said that he approached the airline and the local police over his missing cash but did not receive much help. On October 19, Sheikh returned to India and approached Sahar police. Acting on his complaint, the police lodged a case against an unknown accused under section 379 (theft) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
