Mumbai, June 17: A seemingly routine request for a hot samosa turned violent in Mumbai’s Mumbra area, leading to a severe altercation.
Ziauddin Sheikh, a resident of Mumbra, asked shopkeeper Majid Sheikh for a hot samosa at his shop in Anand Koliwada. When Majid handed him a cold samosa, Ziauddin repeated his request, igniting a heated argument between the two. Frustrated, Majid told Ziauddin to eat what was given or leave. As Ziauddin began to walk away, Majid attacked him from behind with a sharp weapon, injuring Ziauddin’s head. According to a Newsnine report, Ziauddin was rushed to the hospital for treatment. The police were informed and arrived promptly at the scene, registering a case against Majid Sheikh under section 324 of the Indian Penal Code, which pertains to voluntarily causing hurt by dangerous weapons or means. The police are currently investigating the matter further and have pledged to take appropriate action. This incident is reminiscent of other recent violent episodes over trivial disagreements with food vendors. On January 24 in Kanpur, a vendor was beaten to death after refusing to serve free pani puri to a man and his four friends.
Similarly, on January 11 in Shahdara, Delhi, a momo shop owner allegedly stabbed a customer over a request for extra chutney. The victim, Sandeep, 34, asked for extra chutney while eating momos, but the shop owner, Vikas, refused. The disagreement quickly escalated, leading Vikas to stab Sandeep in a fit of anger before fleeing the scene.
