Mumbai, September 5: Mumbaikars got some respite from rains on Thursday after heavy showers lashed the maximum city in the last two days. The water level in several parts of Mumbai has also receded. However, the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) teams are still on high alert and are kept on standby at Kurla, Parel and Andheri. Local train services which were suspended as tracks submerged in water has also been resumed. “Local train towards Andheri left Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT) at 5:22 am and local train towards Panvel left CSMT at 6 am,” read a press release by Public Relations Department, Central Railway, CSMT, Mumbai. Train services resumed on Kurla to Kalyan route and CSMT to Goregaon route after rains relented late on Wednesday evening. Meanwhile, three trains -Western Railway, Chief Public Relations Officer: Three trains - Surat-Mumbai Central, Mumbai Central-Surat, and Bandra Terminus –Vapi - have been cancelled due to heavy rains and waterlogging at Nallasopara. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy rains in several parts of the city and suburbs in the next 48 hours. On Wednesday, heavy rains paralysed normal life across Mumbai, disrupting road and rail traffic and flight operations. Schools and junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane and Konkan region were also remained shut because of heavy showers and waterlogging. While reports said around 20 flights were cancelled and 280 affected.
