Mumbai Rains: Water Level From 7 Lakes Reaches 97.77% After City Receives Downpour

Mumbai, September 5: Following two days of heavy rainfall in the city, the level of the seven lakes supplying water to Mumbai has reached the 97.77 percent mark on Wednesday. According to a Hindustan Times report, the following lakes Tulsi, Tansa, Vihar, Bhatsa, Modak Sagar, Upper Vaitarna and Middle Vaitarna are likely to reach their total capacity if it continues to rain in a similar manner for the next few days. 2 BMC Officials Dead While Trying to Drain Out Water in Goregaon, Child Feared Drowned in Nallasopara.
According to a Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) data, the seven lakes supplying water to the city had 14.15 lakh million litres on Wednesday, just 32,000 million litres short of the full capacity, which is around 14.47 lakh million litres.
According to Skymet weather app, Mumbai received 403mm of rains in just four days' time against its monthly average of 341mm in September. In the last 24 hours, IMD Colaba observatory has recorded 73.6mm of rainfall and, IMD Santacruz observatory has recorded 242.2mm.
Schools and junior colleges in Mumbai, Thane and Konkan region will remain shut on Thursday in view of IMD's forecast of heavy rainfall today. On Wednesday, heavy rains paralysed normal life across Mumbai, disrupting road and rail traffic and flight operations. Reportedly, 20 flights were cancelled and 280 affected.
After the water level receded on Thursday, Mumbai is limping back to normalcy. Local trains have started operating and flights are also running smoothly.
