Mumbai, August 2: In a tragic incident, a person died in a house wall collapsed in Mumbai’s suburb of Andheri East amid heavy downpour in the city. The incident took place at 12.15 pm in a chawl in Chandivali of Sakinaka area, opposite MHADA building. On being informed, a team of police, fire brigade and Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) ward staff reached the spot. The deceased has been identified as Chandrakant Munnappa Shetty. One person has been rescued and sent to a nearby hospital for medical treatment. The injured has been identified as Sandeep Suresh Kadam (35.) Videos from the incident spot are going viral on the internet, where a rescue operation is seen being carried out.

On July 30, two people died after a wall collapsed in Kalwa area. The incident took place following a landslide triggered by heavy rains in the city. As many as 19 people were also evacuated by the authorities.
On July 2, 30 people were killed and over 120 injured after a wall collapsed in Malad East. According to IMD, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected in the city for the next 48 hours. In the last 24 hours, Mumbai witnessed over 100mm of rain.
