Thane, July 2: The Thane Municipal Transport (TMC) rolled out extra buses up to Mulund check naka to ferry stranded passengers after the city was lashed by torrential rains even on Tuesday. According to a tweet by ANI, the arrangement has been directed by Thane Municipal commissioner after local services were stopped between Kurla and Thane. Due to the heavy downpour, waterlogging and flooding have been reported from several areas across the city including Kurla, Sion, Matunga, Andheri, Bandra among several low-lying areas. Mumbai Rains: Decade's Highest Rainfall Hits Maximum City. 

On Tuesday, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) Disaster Management evacuated around 1000 people from Kranti Nagar in Kurla. They were taken a safe area to prevent any untoward incidents due to overflowing Mithi river. In the wake of the heavy rainfall in the city, the Maharashtra government declared a public holiday for Tuesday. The state government declared public holiday in 3 districts of the state - Mumbai City, Mumbai Suburban and Thane district. Earlier in the day, the ground floor of Kailash Parbat Society in Kurla East was submerged in water, after intense spell of rain in the area. Local train services in Central, Harbour and Western Lines were badly hit after the city continued to receive a heavy downpour. Several passengers who were stranded at Thane railway station were served with refreshments by Railway Protection Force (RPF), after several suburban train movements got suspended today due to heavy rains.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) predicted intermittent rain in city and suburbs, with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places for the next 24 hours. “Clouds observed over north Maharashtra coast including Mumbai. More impact likely over south Gujarat&adjoining areas.Intermittent heavy showers expected in Mumbai today.Extremely heavy rainfall,over 200 mm recorded at many places in city; more towards suburbs in last 24 hrs”, the IMD informed.
