Mumbai, July 3: Continuous downpour over the last couple of days brought life to a standstill in the financial city and its suburbs, as well as towns in adjoining Raigad, Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra. Though the heavy rains gave a small relief to the people on Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, heavy rains are likely to resume in the afternoon.

According to the Skymet Weather and Indian Meteorological Department, the incessant rains will resume back to its normal from afternoon onwards and most likely to continue till July 5. Local trains in Mumbai are currently plying almost normal and are only 10-15 minutes late. Earlier in the last four days, Mumbai has recorded a whopping 777 mm of rains, with Santa Cruz observatory has recorded 375 mm of rains. This is considered to be the highest downpour in a decade since 2005. Met department had also cautioned the Mumbaikars to be alert and take precautionary steps as close to 200mm or more rain per day is likely between July 3 and 5.

Apart from Mumbai, heavy to very heavy rains are likely to take place in Vidharbha and parts of Marathwada and North Maharashtra. Emergency services have been kept on alert and BMC has asked its employers to make adequate arrangements.
