Mumbai Rains: Local Train Services Hit Due to Heavy Showers, Around 54 Flights Diverted

According to Mumbai Airport official, around 54 flights have been diverted to the nearby Airport. Early today, Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Pravin Pardeshi declared all schools and colleges shut for the day as a precautionary measure.

Mumbai, July 2: Mumbai has come to a halt following torrential rains in the city. It has been affected by water-logging, traffic snarls, flights delays and cancellation and also suspension of local trains in few routes. According to Mumbai Airport official, around 54 flights have been diverted to the nearby Airport. Early today, Brihanmumbai Municipal Commissioner Pravin Pardeshi declared all schools and colleges shut for the day as a precautionary measure.

The Government of Maharashtra has declared a public holiday in Mumbai today, for the safety of Mumbai city and its citizens, in the wake of very heavy rainfall forecast by IMD.

Mumbai received heaviest rainfall in the last decade this season, Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) claimed on Monday. The city has been seenbeen witnessing heavy downpours since last four days. The IMD also predicted close to 200 mm or more rain per day between July 3 and 5 in Mumbai. Also, heavy rains will lash Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra.
