Rains Batter Mumbai For Third Day, Local Train Services, Normal Life Hit

Heavy rains continued to batter Mumbai, its surroundings and large parts of Maharashtra for the third consecutive day on Monday, hitting normal life and disrupting rail and road traffic.
According to the latest tweet by Disaster Management, Mumbai received 54% of rainfall of average annual rainfall till Monday in 20 rain days. The total rainwater accumulated in the city which is pumped into the sea is approximately 37,550 MLD which is equivalent to the storage capacity of 35,744 MLD of Tulsi and Virar Lake.
According to reports, Popular Terrace CHS, in Borivali has been evacuated after a complaint was received that the structure had weakened and was unsafe.
According to Skymet Weather, while Santacruz observatory has recorded 76 mm rainfall till 5:30 pm, the Colaba observatory has recorded 105 mm rainfall. The weather body say more rain is expected over the next two days.
Rains have stopped in some areas and have slowed down in certain areas too. The Met department has warned of more heavy rains over the next 24 hours. Meanwhile, no decision has been taken yet on whether schools and colleges will be open or shut tomorrow.
According to reports, Tulsi Lake in Thane is overflowing due to heavy rains. Meanwhile, there's waterlogging in Wadala, Sion and Thane among other areas.
The Indian Meteorological Department has issued a red alert over Mumbai and Konkan region. Heavy to very heavy rains are likely to continue over the next 24-48 hours.

Local trains on all lines were running late by at least 10-15 minutes, said commuters on the Mumbai helpline app m-indicator. There were also reports of waterlogging in areas like Virar and Vasai as people took to tweeting updates. Schools & offices remain open amid heavy rainfall and flooding.
On Sunday, a portion of a three-storey building collapsed in Kurla West amid incessant rains. Routes of BEST buses also had to be diverted due to non stop rains in some areas leading to waterlogging. Meanwhile, people also tweeted out to Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis to know if schools and colleges were open as there has been no official word on the same.
