Mumbai Rains News Updates, Traffic & Local Train Status Today: 35 People Rescued From Chinchoti Waterfall in Palghar's Vasai, Operations Underway

At least 40 people were stranded at Chinchoti waterfall in Palghar's Vasai. Out of them, 35 people have been rescued and rescue operations are underway to rescue the remaining people.

In wake of the heavy rainfall across the city, the Central Railway has diverted and cancelled several long-distance trains. Meanwhile, a 25-member National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) team is on its way to the Chinchoti waterfall to rescue people who have been out on a picnic and were stranded.

Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and adjoining suburbs like Malad, Borivali, Powai, Bhandup, Thane and Kalyan on Saturday. According to latest updates, the disaster management team of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation removed two unidentified dead bodies from the Khadavli river on Saturday afternoon.

Meanwhile, a 17-year-old was injured in Kalyan after an electric pole fell on her and is undergoing treatment at the Rukminibai civic hospital.

Traffic jam reported near Anjur Phata on Nashik bypass. Recent tweets inform that one lane towards CSMT has been closed for now and the traffic has been diverted under the Lalbaugh flyover.

According to a recent update, the Lalbaug-CSTM road has been blocked due to heavy rainfall after a tempo met with an accident on Lalbaug flyover. Meanwhile, recent tweets inform that commuters are witnessing a full stretch of traffic jam from Belapur to Kharghar because of the bad roads.

Amid heavy rainfall in Mumbai, waterlogging has been reported in Malad subway due to the continues downpour since Friday. Suburban Kalyan and Thane are reporting heavy rains, prompting municipal officials to prepare for emergency measures.

Mumbai witnessed heavy rains since Friday night, resulting in waterlogging at several places. In a similar incident, the area near Ambarnath's Shiv Mandir has completely submerged in rainwater due to overflowing nullah from the neighbouring area.

According to a recent update by Skymet Weather, intense thunderclouds are visible over Mumbai. The private weather agency predicts heavy rain with short breaks for the next 2 to 3 days.

Train services between Badlapur and Kalyan resume. "Services have resumed in Kalyan Badlapur section from 11.30 am. However, There is some delay", the Central Railway tweeted.  Heavy rainfall has been reported in Thane, Palghar districts. As per reports, the maximum rains recorded in Mumbai city since morning is 14mm, in the eastern suburbs it is 38mm, while in the western suburbs it is 28mm.

According to Ajay Kumar, Scientist, India Meteorological Department, heavy to very heavy rainfall is expected to occur in Konkan Goa and Mumbai in the next five days. Heavy rainfall lashed the city of Mumbai, several parts of Thane, Kalyan and Navi Mumbai. This has caused waterlogging in certain parts and causing a temporary disruption in suburban rail services.

In wake of incessant rains, heavy traffic have been reported on Sion-Panvel Highway. Water logging has been at Dombivali, East.

According to Skymet weather, Mumbai will also continue with moderate to heavy rains over many parts. These rains are likely to continue for another 24-48 hours. Meanwhile, places such as Akola, Nagpur, Aurangabad, Chandrapur, Wardha, Jalna, Nanded will receive moderate to heavy rains with isolated very heavy showers. Ratnagiri, Raigarh and Vengurla may also record heavy rains.

The IMD has forecasted about intermittent showers with heavy rains for places in the island city and suburbs for the next 24 hours.  Water-logging has been reported at Kalyan station, disrupting rail services on Central Line.

According to Skymet Weather, rainfall activity will increase over Marathwada and North Madhya Maharashtra in the next 24 hours.

Vidarbha may also witness heavy spells during the next 24 hours including parts of Marathwada.

Another incident of road cave-in has been reported in South Mumbai. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has been undertaking repair work since morning. As per reports, the cave-in took place between NK Road and Dr. Baba Saheb Jaykar Marg in Charni Road.

Reports by Skymet Weather informed that during the last 24 hours, the coastal stations of Maharashtra have recorded moderate to heavy rains. The report informs that Nagpur has recorded 282.0 mm of rain, leading to flooding. In the last 24 hours from 08:30 am on Friday, Mahabaleshwar recorded 151 mm of rain followed by Chandrapur 75 mm, Thane 54 mm, Dahanu 26 mm, Aurangabad 10 mm and Mumbai 6 mm.
