Important trains linking Mumbai and Pune including the Deccan Express and Pragati Express will be cancelled for a fortnight from July 26 to August 9 to enable Central Railway address the problem of falling boulders in the treacherous Lonavala-Khandala ghats sections.
"Some parts of a hill has collapsed on the vacated 8 to 10 huts at Valmiki Nagar Slum,Opp. Himalaya Soc, Asalfa Village. The huts had been vacated for safety concerns by fire brigade,police & ward staff are on the spot. No injuries reported," said BMC in its tweet.
Heavy rainfall continues to lash parts of Mumbai. Due to the incessant downpour, waterlogging has been reported in several areas triggering to traffic snarls in Dadar, Sion, Matunga, Parel, Santa Cruz, and Andheri.
Many subways in Western suburbs like the Khar subway, Milan subway and other junctions have reported cases of water-logging. Commuters facing hardships due to slow traffic and unrelenting rains.
The unrelenting rains in Mumbai have started affecting flight operations as well. Due to the heavy downpour and poor visibility, flights to and from Mumbai are delayed. Both Vistara and IndiGo have alerted their passengers to check the status of their flights before they leave home and to expect delays.
As intensity of rainfall increases, incidents of water-logging has been reported from various parts of Mumbai. Chembur, a prominent suburb in East Mumbai, reported water-logging at several places.
The trains running on Harbour line (CST to Vashi/Badlapur/Panvel) are getting delayed to the multiple stoppages and slow running between Mankhurd and Vashi. Commuters travelling to work are facing difficulties due to the delay.
The Santacruz observatory recorded 58 mm downpour between 8.30 am on Tuesday and 5.30 am on Wednesday while 171 mm rainfall was recorded in Colaba in 3 hours
According to private weather agency, Skymet Weather, the rain intensity would decrease over Colaba, Navi Mumbai, Panvel and Thane during next 2-3 hours. Meanwhile, a good spell will be witnessed over SantaCruz, Bhiwandi, Vasai and Mira Bhayander during next 1-2 hours.
Suburban train services are running on all four corridors of Central Railway. However, there is a delay of 10 to 15 minutes on the main line between Kurla and Sion due to waterlogging in low lying spots of this patch.

Skymet Weather App predicts that Mumbai rains may see an increase in intensity around July 26 and it may get heavier between July 27 and 28. According to the weather forecast, these showers will get hefty and three-digit rains are expected. Indian Meteorological Department predicted heavy rains on Tuesday night and keeping this in mind, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) was on alert and they kept assistant engineers on standby in every ward of the city.
According to an ANI update, the railway tracks at Sion Railway Station have submerged, following the heavy rains in the city. Central Railways have tweeted saying the services are running smoothly.
