Mumbai, August 5: Amid incessant rainfall over the last couple of days in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Sunday, August 4, declared that schools, colleges and other educational institutions will remain closed in the maximum city on Monday to make sure students are safe from flooding reported in some areas. According to India Meteorological Department (IMD), in last 24 hours, Mumbai received around 100mm rain while suburbs Navi Mumbai and Thane recorded over 250 mm rainfall. Intermittent rain with heavy to very heavy downpour is expected in the city and extremely heavy showers at isolated places for the next 24 hours.
Even on Monday, Waterlogging has been reported in many areas of Vasai, Virar, Nala Sopara, Mira Road, Bhayander, Bhiwandi, Thane City, Titwala, Ulhasnagar, Kalyan, Roha, Pali, Karjat, and Mangaon. Western Railway: 70 Suburban Services Cancelled, 100 Delayed Following Water-Logging.
At least four people died in rain-related incidents in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar district, while a man went missing after he fell into an open sewage line t Dharavi.
