Mumbai received the highest rainfall on Tuesday, while half a dozen districts went completely dry, as per the district-wise data of Maharashtra released on Wednesday by the IMD. The Mumbai suburbs were clobbered with 184.3 mm rainfall, against the normal of 19.4 mm, which was 850 per cent higher.

Mumbai, July 11: Incessant rains lashed Mumbai and its neighbouring areas crippling life in the city for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday. The heavy downpour flooded streets, rail tracks and disrupted traffic in various areas across the city. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to very heavy rain till Thursday. The Tulsi lake, which is a major source of supply water also overflowed due to the heavy showers in the city.
According to reports, the heavy rainfall on Tuesday was believed to be the highest of the season so far in a day. Water-logging was reported from several low-lying areas in Mumbai with people seen wading through knee-deep water. Vehicles on many roads were seen crawling because of the rain and low visibility, while potholes compounded the problem.
According to Western Railways, about 450 passengers were rescued by a team of NDRF from 12928 Vadodara Express which was standing between Nallsopara and Virar amidst waterlogging on Tuesday. Reports informed that all passengers were been brought to Nallasopara station and buses were arranged to transport them.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said the Maharashtra government is keeping a close watch on the situation in Mumbai and its neighbouring areas, especially in Palghar district amid heavy rains. On Tuesday, the India Meteorological Department's Colaba observatory (for the Mumbai city) recorded 165.8 mm rainfall in the 24-hour period of 8.30 am yesterday till 8.30 am today. The Santacruz observatory, which records rainfall for the suburban Mumbai, reported 184.3 mm rainfall in the same period.
