Mumbai Rains: Journalist Survives Fall Into Open Manhole, Mocks BMC on Twitter

A Mumbai based journalist on Tuesday had a narrow escape after he fell into a manhole at Andheri's Veera Desai Road. According to the report, the incident took place at 9:30 am in the morning when Tanmaya Nanda stepped out of his residence to get a packet of milk. He somehow managed to save himself and escape out.

Mumbai, July 2: In a near-death experience, a Mumbai based journalist on Tuesday, July 2, had a narrow escape after he fell into a manhole at Andheri's Veera Desai Road. According to the report, the incident took place at 9:30 am in the morning when Tanmaya Nanda stepped out of his residence to get a packet of milk. He somehow managed to save himself and escape out. Mocking the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) on Twitter, Nanda said, "So I fell into this open manhole on the sidewalk on Veera Desai road (opposite Country Club) a little while ago. Managed to break fall and pull myself out. Thanks @mybmc #mumbairains #mumbaimonsoon #manhole." Mumbai Rain live updates.

Reacting to the Nanda's tweet, BMC tweeted, "It was certainly very unfortunate and we regret your experience, Mr Nanda, & we are trying our best to minimise inconvenience to the citizens." Meanwhile, the civic body fixed the manhole cover and shared the image.

This is not the first time that manholes have become a threat to life, in August 2017, Dr Deepak Amarapurkar, died after falling in a manhole while walking in the flooded street in south Mumbai during heavy rains.
