Mumbai Rains: IAF Mi-17 Chopper Rescues 9 People Stranded Atop Building in Kalyan; Watch Video

Mumbai, July 27: The Indian Air Force (IAF), which was deployed for rescue operation in deluge hit part of suburban Mumbai, executed a successful rescue of at least 9 people stranded atop a building in Kalyan. The Air Force used Mi-17 chopper to rescue the stranded individuals and drop them off to a safe location.

As per the video of the rescue operation shared on social media, the victims could be seen standing on a building's terrace, as rainwater had accumulated up to several feets in their vicinity. Mumbai has been hit by severe rainfall over the last 24 hours, with flood-like situation being reported in several suburban parts. The Kolhapur-bound Mahalaxmi Express with 900 people onboard was stranded near Chamtoli in Badlapur.

The passengers were rescued in multi-hour rescue operation conducted jointly by the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), IAF, Navy, Central Railway and the local authorities. The commuters have been sent to Kolhapur through a special 19-coach train arranged by the Railways.
