Mumbai, September 3: After witnessing moderate spells, the monsoon activity in Mumbai is likely to strengthen in the coming days. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the metropolis is set to receive more rainfall in next 2-3 days. The city has been witnessing light rains for a long time now, but in the coming days, Mumbai is set to be lashed by heavy rainfall. According to Skymet Weather, the rainfall activity in the city has increased after the night on Monday. Monsoon 2019: IMD Forecasts 99% Rainfall in August, 100% in September.

The private weather agency informed that in the last 21 hours from 5.30 am on Monday, Santa Cruz in Mumbai has recorded 106 mm of rainfall. The heavy rainfall in the city has brought normal life to a standstill as waterlogging was reported from several areas and parked vehicles were also seen partially submerged. Pre-Monsoon Rainfall From March to May Deficit Drops to 22%: IMD.

The weather agency informed that two cyclonic circulations lay over Chhattisgarh and Madhya Pradesh, which is likely to cause widespread rainfall over Maharashtra. In the wake of the changing weather conditions, the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC) of Mumbai, has placed Mumbai, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg on alert.

The rainfall in Mumbai is a result of a Cyclonic Circulation which is still persisting over South Gujarat region. Moreover, a low-pressure area which is over Odisha and adjoining areas. Moderate spells are likely to continue with isolated heavy spells over some pockets of Mumbai and suburbs. On Sunday, the IMD said Mumbai is likely to receive more rainfall in next 2-3 days due to the active west coast moving towards south Konkan and further.

Apart from Mumbai, the IMD has also predicted that isolated pockets over Odisha and Coastal Karnataka. Moreover, some of the areas of Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, Rajasthan and West Madhya Pradesh are also expected to witness heavy downpour throughout the day, the IMD stated in its All India Weather Warning Bulletin.
