Mumbai, June 28: Heavy rains lashed Mumbai and surrounding areas on Friday, bringing respite from the intense heat in the financial capital. The torrential downpour also caused waterlogging in several parts of the city across Mumbai even though it only brought relief from the prolonged spell of intense heat. Local train services were slightly delayed on Central, Harbour and Western lines due to rains in the city. Catch live updates on Mumbai rains and local train and road traffic status.

At present, the minimum and maximum temperatures of the city are hovering at 24 degree Celsius and 31 degree Celsius, respectively, with relative humidity around 88 percent. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), heavy rains triggered waterlogging at Hindmata, Andheri, Malad Subway, Saki Naka, Marol and Neelam Junction. Authorities were "on their toes" to clear waterlogged roads.

While Mumbai received 33 mm rainfall till 1 pm, suburban areas such as Thane, Virar, Borivali and Palghar witnessed 95 mm rainfall. Heavy rains also led to traffic snarls on Western Express Highway. "Hello, Mumbai! The island city and suburbs have received 33 mm and 95 mm rainfall respectively. While we're on our toes, it may take some time to pump out all water from waterlogged areas owing to neap tide. Hopefully, all should be well by late evening," read a tweet from official Twitter handle of BMC.

Authorities had to shut Andheri Subway as it was flooded following heavy rains. Local trains on Central and Harbour lines were running 15-20 minutes behind the scheduled time. However, services on the Western line remained largely unaffected. Flight operations at both domestic and international airports were affected due to heavy rainfall and low visibility. Several flights were delayed or diverted due to heavy rains.

As per the India Meteorological Department, rains are expected to continue throughout the day today and will become heavy to very heavy in pockets during this time. Sky will remain cloudy the entire day with no sign of sunshine.
