Mumbai, August 5: Heavy downpour, which created massive havoc, in Mumbai and neighbouring districts of Maharashtra in the last couple of days, is most likely to hit back again on Tuesday and Wednesday. Met department even predicted that the region is going to receive heavy rainfall during the next four to five days. Mumbaikars have been advised to remain alert by the administration.
According to the information from the India Meteorological Department, through Twitter, it was predicted that extremely heavy falls are also likely over south Konkan today, ghats area of Madhya Maharashtra on August 5, 6 and 8. Not only this, widespread rainfall with isolated heavy to very heavy falls very likely over Odisha, south Chhattisgarh, south MP, Madhya Maharashtra, south Konkan and Goa, Gujarat region, Kerala, Karnataka and northern parts of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana during next 4-5 days, IMD predicted. Earlier on Monday waterlogging was reported in many areas of Vasai, Virar, Nala Sopara and other cities in Palghar district. Citing the worrisome situation in Maharashtra government, led by Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, had announced that schools, colleges and other educational institutions would remain closed in the maximum city on Monday.
Similar district administration announced that educational institutes in Nasik, Pune, Thane, Kalyan and Dombivli to remain shut on Monday. It is to be known that approximately 70 suburban services were cancelled and approx 100 services got delayed in Western Railways. Even Central Railways issued a list of cancelled trains trough its social media handle.
Till now four people died in rain-related incidents in Mumbai, Thane and Palghar district, while a man went missing after he fell into an open sewage line t Dharavi. It is to be known that Mumbai is on red alert on the IMD radar and all precautionary measures are being taken by the district administration.
