Mumbai Rains Forecast: Heavy Rainfall Likely to Hit Raigad, Thane and Palghar Today, City to Witness Downpour for Next 5 Days

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings and informed that places like Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are also likely to receive showers, with extremely heavy rains at isolated places.

Mumbai, July 8: Mumbai is set to witness heavy to very heavy rainfall for the next five days at isolated places of the city including Thane, Palghar, Dombivili, Bhiwandi. The city will witness a continues downpour from Sunday till Wednesday. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued warnings and informed that places like Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg are also likely to receive showers, with extremely heavy rains at isolated places.

Mumbai has received around 55 mm rainfall while Eastern and Western Suburbs received 133 and 112 mm rainfall in the last 24 hours. According to the latest visuals by ANI, vehicles wade the water-logged road in front of Sion police station as heavy rain continues to lash the city of Mumbai. According to a tweet by Disaster Management, Mumbai is facing neap tide and heavy rainfall today despite which water accumulations at some parts of Hindmata, Parel TT, Sion, Goregaon and Chembur.

Reports inform that westerly winds have led to the heavy rains in the city since the last week. KS Hosalikar, IMD deputy director-general (western region), said they are expecting wide-spread rains at most places during these days. Amid heavy rainfall in the city since the last few days, flood-like situation prevailed in Thane district's Bhiwandi, Dombivili and other regions. In Palghar too, severe waterlogging was reported from several areas.

Heavy rains brought normal life to a standstill and caused major traffic jams across the city. The MeT Department has predicted that heavy to very heavy rainfall will occur in Konkan Goa and Mumbai in the next five days. “Heavy to very heavy rainfall expected to occur in Konkan Goa and Mumbai in the next five days”, Ajay Kumar, Scientist, India Meteorological Department said on Saturday.
