While it provided much-needed relief from the scorching heat for the Maharashtrian capital, it simultaneously had a detrimental effect on the overall progress of the monsoon 2023 across the country. However, after the delayed onset, monsoon is finally arriving in Mumbai.
The India Meteorological Department confirmed the ]southwest monsoon is likely to hit Mumbai by June 24. “Conditions are favourable for the monsoon to move further towards Raigad, Thane, Mumbai and Palghar. The city received light to moderate rainfall today. It is predicted that light to moderate rain likely over several parts of Mumbai later in the day. Mumbaikars are expected to get respite from rising mercury as rainfall is predicted over the weekend. The IMD Mumbai has further predicted similar conditions over the city for the next two days. The weather office has said that the atmosphere will be cloudy, and light to moderate rainfall will likely lash the city for the next 48 hours.
The minimum temperature in Mumbai today will likely swing around 28 degrees Celsius, while the maximum temperature might reach 31 degrees Celsius. As per the seven-day weather prediction, the temperature in Mumbai is likely to reach 29 degrees Celsius on Friday, 28 degrees Celsius on Saturday, 28 degrees Celsius on Sunday, 27 degrees Celsius on Monday, 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, 28 degrees Celsius on Wednesday and 26 degrees Celsius on Thursday. According to the last week's bulletin from the IMD, the monsoon's onset towards Northern Maharashtra began from Ratnagiri. The weather bureau had previously mentioned that the monsoon was expected to reach Mumbai between June 18 and 21. However, the city's initial June 11 date was missed due to the impact of Cyclone Biparjoy, which made landfall on June 15.
