Mumbai, July 1: Heavy rains continued to lash Mumbai for the fourth consecutive day on Monday. Mumbai witnessed the highest rainfall in a decade in June this year in the last two days. According to the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC), 550 mm average of the entire month of June has been exceeded in the last 48 hours. The civic body tweeted, “Mumbai, we understand it’s not been an easy Monday, but it’s also been a rain spell like never before - it’s the highest in a decade. 550 mm average of entire month of June has been exceeded in just last 48 hrs. Meanwhile, the financial capital witnessed long traffic jam due to heavy downpour. Waterlogging was reported near Powai Garden and Malad Crematorium. Traffic snarls were also reported from the Western Express Highway. Local train services were also hampered due to heavy showers.
The IMD also predicted close to 200 mm or more rain per day between July 3 and 5 in Mumbai. Also, heavy rains will lash Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra. On Monday, Several intercity trains were also delayed after good trains derailed between Jambrung and Thakurwadi on ghat section between Karjat and Lonavala due to heavy rainfall.
