Mumbai, July 16: To drain the rainwater from railways tracks, the central railway authority of Mumbai has decided to construct sluice gate (sliding gates), so the water will recede quickly. As per a news report in DNA, the central railway officials are currently in the process of designing the gates. Moreover, they want the gates to be light in size so that it does not take more manpower and could be lifted by one or two officials during heavy rains. As per reports, the size of the gates will be nine square in metres.

An official was quoted as saying, "We found out that while our drains were clean, the water wasn’t draining out into the main drains outside our premises, since, the railway drains are at a lower level than the ones on roads, maintained by the civic body. So, the sluice gate will help to recede the water more quickly." Besides this, the official also added that installing the sluice gate will increase the water logging level on roads as all water will flush into the road drains.

Due to heavy rains on July 9, a few days ago, the western line was badly affected. The train services between Virar to Bhayander was completely suspended due to inundated water on tracks. However, the central line train services were operational. The trains on central routes were running at the restricted limit.
