Mumbai, September 4: In the wake of heavy rainfall warning in Mumbai, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) directed schools to remain closed on Wednesday. The civic body also asked principals of the educational institutes to take precaution to send those students back home safely who had already reached. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) issued an "Orange alert" for Mumbai and Thane for Wednesday. The weather department predicted that both the cities of Maharashtra will receive heavy to very heavy rainfall today. BMC Urges Citizens to Avoid Venturing Near Sea And Walking in Waterlogged Areas.
The BMC in a tweet said, “In wake of IMD’s warning of heavy rainfall for the rest of the day too, the schools shall remain closed today. The Principals of the schools where students are already in, are requested to take all precautions and ensure that the children are sent back home carefully and safely.” Mumbai Rains: Heavy Rainfall to Continue for Next Few Days, Raigad, Ratnagiri and Sindhudurg on Alert.

Earlier in the day, the BMC urged citizens to take care and avoid venturing near the sea or walking in waterlogged areas. Traffic movement has been affected due to waterlogging in low-lying areas like Sion, Dadar, Parel and Kings Circle. Local trains were also delayed as incessant rains continue to lash the maximum city.
