Mumbai Rain Alert: IMD Predicts Heavy Rainfall in City For Couple of Hours, BMC Urges Citizens to Take Precautions
Heavy rains are likely to occur across Mumbai for a couple of hours, said the India Meteorological Department on Thursday evening.
Mumbai, September 26: Heavy rains are likely to occur across Mumbai for a couple of hours, said the India Meteorological Department on Thursday evening. Following the forecast of heavy rainfall, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) urged citizens to take precautions while travelling. Many areas in Mumbai witnessed a fresh spell of showers in the evening.
"As per the IMD forecast, intense rainfall is expected in the city for the next two to three hours. We request citizens to not believe in any rumours & practice caution. Earlier on September 20, the IMD issued a red alert predicting heavy rains in Mumbai. However, the alert turned flat as the city hardly witnessed heavy showers during the said time. The IMD had predicted very heavy rainfall in Mumbai and adjoining areas from September 19 to September 21.
Several parts of Maharashtra are witnessing heavy rains. At least 12 persons have been killed and four more missing in various rain-related incidents in Pune and Nashik, and surrounding areas since late Wednesday. Normal life has been crippled in the state's cultural, academic and IT capital since yesterday as most people preferred to remain indoors under heavily overcast skies and non-stop rain.
