Mumbai, March 8: In order to prevent landslides on Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the Maharashtra government will start removing loose rocks and boulders from the adjacent hills. To ensure that the works go smoothly, there will be a traffic halt of 15 minutes between March 12, 2019, and March 20, 2019. This operation is carried out to avoid any incident during the monsoon season. Due to vertical rock cuts and weathering, this route is known to have rockfall during the rainy season. For instance, in 2015, two incidents were witnessed near Adoshi Tunnel- In the first incident in July three people were killed and another in August, when there were no casualties. Meanwhile, the Mumbai-Pune Expressway was closed for around two hours on January 31. The road to Pune was closed between 12 pm to 2 pm to set up directive panel near Panvel. Similarly, on January 18, the expressway was closed for installation of the overhead gantry. To avoid traffic, vehicles on this route was diverted via old Mumbai-Pune highway.
