Mumbai, July 18: In a dramatic turn of events, a burglary suspect managed to evade custody by escaping through a bathroom window at Mumbai's Vakola police station. The 27-year-old suspect, identified as Mahesh Gurav, broke free late Tuesday night, July 16, shortly after being remanded to police custody following his arrest for an alleged burglary in Santacruz East. The escape, discovered when Gurav failed to return from using the restroom, has prompted a widespread search operation by authorities.

As per a Times of India report,  the series of events leading to Mahesh Gurav's daring escape from the Vakola police station began with his arrest for an alleged burglary in Santacruz East. Gurav was apprehended after attempting to break into a salon owner's residence, where he reportedly targeted valuables including gold and silver items worth approximately Rs 58,000. On the night of the incident, Gurav was housed in the police station's lockup pending further proceedings. According to the Lokmat Times report, Gurav requested to use the restroom, prompting a police constable to escort him to the facility. It was during this period that Gurav exploited a lapse in supervision, breaking the grille of the bathroom window and slipping out unnoticed.
