Mumbai Police Sub-Inspector Commits Suicide in Pune After Being Booked for Raping Senior's Wife
A Mumbai Police Sub-inspector (PSI), Savjan Sanap, committed suicide, by jumping before a moving train near Sangam bridge in Pune, after being accused of allegedly raping a woman.
Pune, November 28: A Mumbai Police Sub-inspector (PSI), Sajan Sanap, committed suicide, by jumping before a moving train near Sangam bridge in Pune, after the wife of a senior police officer lodged a rape complaint against him. The complaint was filed against the officer on November 26. In her complaint, the woman alleged that sub-inspector raped her by threatening to kill her husband, reported Lokmat. The Sub-inspector was working at Amboli police station in Jogeshwari. On November 25, Sanap went to Nashik where a woman filed a police complaint against him on the charges of rape. The woman alleged that he had raped her on several occasions as her husband was posted in Mumbai. An FIR under section 376 of Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered against him. He was also booked under the Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
After the victim's complaint, he was arrested and kept under the police custody. But he managed to escape from the cell and went directly to Pune. In a meanwhile on Tuesday, Sanap committed suicide by jumping under a fast train near Sangam bridge in Pune.
