Mumbai, January 7: Two First Information Reports (FIRs) have been lodged against former Jawaharlal Nehru University student and activist Umar Khalid for holding protest from Hutatma Chowk to Gateway of India in Mumbai and for unlawful assembly at Gateway of India. The protest was against the Sunday attack on JNU students and teachers inside the varsity campus. An FIR was also filed against Mehak Mirza Prabhu, who was seen holding "Free Kashmir" placard during the Monday protest. The students from various educational institutions gathered at the Gateway for India and demanded the Centre to act against assailants who left 28 people, including JNU Students' Union president Aishe Ghosh, injured. The protests became further controversial as BJP’s Delhi spokesperson Tajinder Pal Singh Bagga alleged that "Hinduo se Aazadi" slogan was raised by Umar Khalid. However, our fact check revealed that no such slogans were raised and Khalid also denied the claim.
Along with Umar Khalid, singer Monica Dogra, Indian actor Nandita Das, comedian Kunal Kamra and other personalities took part in the protest.
