Mumbai Online Fraud: Man Loses Rs 96,000 While Trying to Pay Electricity Bill Using Google Pay App

In a shocking case of online fraud, a private employee lost Rs 96,000 recently while trying to pay his electricity bill using Google Pay app. According to an Indian Express report, which the victim was trying to make the transaction, there was some error in it.

Mumbai, September 11:  In a shocking case of online fraud, a private employee lost Rs 96,000 recently while trying to pay his electricity bill using Google Pay app. According to an Indian Express report, while the victim was trying to make the transaction, there was some error in it.  The complainant then reportedly searched for the online payment system’s customer care number on the internet and contacted it. The modus operandi operated by the fraudster was- he had updated his own number as the customer care of the digital wallet platform, posing as an official from Google Pay. When the victim contacted on that number, the cyber fraudster told him that the transaction error which he faced was very common and it will be solved in minutes.

The accused then sent a collect request to the complainant and asked him to click on it. The moment the complainant clicked on the link, Rs 96,000 got transferred from his account.

A complaint has been registered in the Andheri Police station and on the preliminary examination, it was found that the number used by the fraudster to trick the victim belonged to Rajasthan. There has been a tremendous rise in online frauds lately in Mumbai, where cheats are all out to dupe innocent people and their hard-earned money.
