Mumbai, September 24: In a sad incident, a portion of five-storey building near Khar Gymkhana in Khar West area of Mumbai collapsed on Tuesday afternoon. The officials have identified the building names as Pooja building, which is situated at the 17th Road at Khar West. In the mishap, 10-year-old Mahi Motvani -- trapped under the debris -- was declared brought dead at Lilavati Hospital.

According to reports, published in the Mumbai Mirror, the incident of building collapse took place at around 1:15 pm on Tuesday when a part of the staircase collapsed. Following the report, emergency services like ambulances, fire brigade and police rushed to the spot. They have begun the rescue operations, and are clearing the debris. Meanwhile, the administration is looking for answers behind the sudden collapse of the portion of the building, and it is expected that a committee might be formed to investigate the reason for the collapse. However, locals claim that might have taken place due to the poor condition of the structure, which might have deteriorated after continued splash of heavy rains this monsoon.
