Mumbai, January 4: In a shocking incident, a one-year-old child – Atharva Barkade – fell from the balcony of his fourth-floor home of Jay Gopi Krishna CHS at Deonar of Mumbai on Thursday morning, but surprisingly suffered no injuries at all. The child has been admitted in the ICU as a precautionary measure, after preliminary reports revealed that the child suffered no injuries.
According to the incident, Atharva curiously crawled to the edge of the balcony of his fourth-floor home on Thursday and fell from there, but was saved by holding on to a tree branch. His father – Ajit – was getting ready to go to work and his grandmother was going to the balcony attached to the living room to put out clothes to dry, when this incident took place at 8:45 am. Briefing about the incident, Atharva's aunt Anjali said, as reported by mid-day, “I was cooking when I heard Ajit shouting. All the family members rushed to the living room, and he just kept pointing to the balcony. We all rushed to the ground floor and our surprise, found Atharva crying and trying to stand up.”
Atharva’s parents took a sigh of relief when they couldn’t find any injury on his body. However, they took him to a
doctor for a more professional assessment. Stating the details, Atharva’s mother said, “Without giving it a second thought, we rushed to the main road looking for an autorickshaw and took him to a private hospital in Chembur, where we were told that they don't have the facilities to admit a baby. Then, we took him to the Fortis Hospital in Mulund.”
The doctors have admitted Atharva in the paediatric ICU and kept him under observation for 48 hours. Though CT scan and other reports have not shown any internal bleeding, precautionary measures are being taken.
