Mumbai, September 13: The Bombay High Court while hearing a petition of a 13-year-old minor rape survivor on Wednesday asked Mumbai’s JJ Hospital to submit a report by September 14. The victim who is battling cancer filed the petition to terminate her 24-week pregnancy. According to a report published in Hindustan Times, the petitioner’s mother approached in the high court with the help of NGO Majlis. In the petition she asked for terminating the pregnancy of her daughter as she was being treated with cancer and continuing pregnancy would prove harmful for her.

The petitioner’s mother works as a house help. According to the report, the victim has been undergoing treatment for blood cancer at Wadia Hospital since 2010. The entire incident came to light on September 5, when the girl visited the hospital. She then told that her school friend raped her. The police have filed a criminal complaint against the accused with Bhoiwada police station under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The accused is also a minor.

Lawyer Kuldeep Nikam submitted the sonography report of Wadia Hospital in the court confirming the pregnancy. He told the court that continuing a pregnancy would pose a severe threat to the life of the teenager. He also said that it was an unwanted pregnancy and medical experts were against it. A division bench of justice Abhay Oka and Mahesh Sonak asked the dean of JJ Hospital to appoint a committee to examine the victim on Thursday.
