Mumbai, June 18: A man who was a minor when he killed a sex worker in Mumbai has been sentenced to life imprisonment for murder. In 2018, Abdul Ansari, a tailor, allegedly killed a sex worker near the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (CSMT). The sessions court found Ansari guilty and awarded him life imprisonment for killing the sex worker.

According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the murder occurred on June 4, 2018, when the victim had gone to meet her friend, who was also a sex worker. Cops said that Ansari, who was reportedly a former customer of the victim, had accused her of stealing money. He suddenly approached her near the bus stop outside CSMT and stabbed her in the shoulder and stomach with a knife. Mumbai Shocker: Man Brutally Kills Ex-Girlfriend on Street With Spanner in Vasai, Disturbing Video Surfaces.

The victim was immediately rushed to St George Hospital but succumbed to her injuries. After the victim's death, the MRA Marg police registered an FIR against Ansari. Following this, the police filed a chargesheet against him at the Ballard Pier magistrate court, where the case was transferred to the sessions court. On June 10, AS Salgar, judge of additional sessions, said that the prosecution proved that it was a case of homicidal death and corroborated the same by evidence from medical officers and the post-mortem report.

The court also noted that the prosecution proved that Ansari was carrying a knife that day and that the accused killed the sex worker. While arguing the sentence, Ansari's lawyer sought leniency, stating that the accused was a minor during the incident. Ansari's advocate also stated that he was the only earning member of his family. Mumbai Shocker: 17-Year-Old Sexually Assaults Minor Girl at Home After She Refuses To Buy Him Cigarette, Arrested.

However, the court refused to consider Ansari's minor status at the time of the crime. The court also noted that the claim was raised only after Ansari was convicted. Besides life imprisonment, the court imposed a fine of Rs 5,000 on Ansari and also sentenced him to an additional six months imprisonment.
