Mumbai Man Arrested for Booking Railway Tickets Worth Rs 57 Lakh Illegally
A man has been arrested by the central railway authorities for illegally booking long distance railway tickets using unauthorised methods.
Mumbai, October 29: A man has been arrested by the Central Railway authorities for illegally booking long distance railway tickets using unauthorised methods. Officials said that the investigation has shown that the accused booked nearly 2,042 tickets worth Rs 57.69 lakh using the same modus operandi. The man was identified as Indrajeet Gupta, a resident of Mankhurd, who supplies mineral water bottles for a living. On Friday, acting on a tip-off, Central Railway vigilance department along with anti-tout squad and Railway police force personnel from Dadar, arrested him and found 44 freshly booked e-tickets worth Rs 2 lakh that he booked from his laptop using the mobile phone as a hotspot. “The tickets confiscated during such raids are cancelled immediately and no one can travel on them,” said a senior official from Central Railway.
The accused was living with his wife, children and a younger brother who is a fruit seller. Indrajeet used a ticket booking software which speeds up the process by skipping various fill-up columns. The accused used to go around the various spots to become untraceable. Police have arrested Indrajeet after they sent a decoy customer to him. After he booked the tickets he was arrested by the RPF personnel. He has been charged under section 143 of Indian Railway Act which states that unauthorised carrying on of the business of procuring and supplying of railway tickets is a punishable offence.
