Mumbai Local Train Status Today: Services on Central, Western and Harbour Lines Running Smoothly, Several Express Trains Short Terminated

The intense rainfall since Friday led to accumulation of water on the tracks, causing the local trains to suspend services. Lakhs of commuters, travelling in local trains, faced inconvenience, and were forced to skip work. The Harbour line, which connects Mumbai to neighbouring Navi Mumbai, was also hit.

Mumbai, August 6: Heavy rainfall in Mumbai and its adjoining areas crippled normal life and disrupted rail and air traffic since Friday. Mumbaikars breathed a sigh of relief on Monday after local train services on all the three lines- Central, Western and Harbour, began functioning after being hit for nearly two days. The intense rainfall since Friday led to accumulation of water on the tracks, which led to suspension of services. Lakhs of commuters, travelling in local trains to their workplace faced inconvenience. Apart from the Central and Western Line, the Harbour line, which connects Mumbai to neighbouring Navi Mumbai, was also hit. On Tuesday, August 6, train services on all the three lines resumed smoothly.  The Central Railway took to Twitter and said that the local train services on all the sections, including between Badlapur-Karjat have resumed and functioning smoothly. The Central Railway on Monday had started shuttle service for Karjat commuters. "For the benefit of Karjat commuters, we are starting shuttle service between Karjat & Panvel to enable them to travel on harbour/transharbour/mainline suburban section of CR", the Central Railway tweeted.

Central Line Train Train Update:

  • Rail services between Badlapur-Karjat resumes on Tuesday.
  • A CSMT- KJT local left from CSMT at 04:48 am on Tuesday, while the KJT-CSMT local started at 05:53 am from Karjat. Meanwhile, another local train from Thane to Karjat started at 05:00 am on Tuesday morning.
  • Several long-distance trains, traveling towards Pune, will be operational by Wednesday as certain stretches beyond Karjat are yet to be repaired.

Western Line Local Train Update

Local Trains were running smoothly with a delay of 10-15 mins. Earlier in the day, a technical glitch was reported by commuters in Goregoan on Tuesday due to which all fast trains towards Virar were stopped for some time. Commuters said that only slow trains were working. Local trains between Vasai-Churchgate and Virar-Dadar sections are running fine with a delay of 5-7 mins.

The Western Railways tweeted saying that several trains were short terminated or diverted as services were affected due to water logging in Vadodara Division in Gujarat.

Harbour Line Local Train Update

The local train services on the Harbour Line in Mumbai were delayed by 10-15 mins on Tuesday. Trains between Thane and Nerul were on time. There was a slight delay of 5-7 minutes between Panvel and CSTM. Meanwhile, local trains in Thane-Vashi, Thane-Belapur and Thane Panvel sections were running on time.

The torrential rains in Mumbai led to heavy waterlogging in major parts, landslide, various accidents. The Railways have taken stringent measures to ensure the safety of passengers travelling either in local or express trains.

On Saturday, local train services on Central Line, Main Line and Harbour Line between the Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus (in Mumbai) and Karjat, Kasaraand Khopoli were suspended due to the accumulation of water on tracks following heavy and continuous rains. In Palghar, heavy rains led to water levels rising over tracks in some sections, leading to suspension of train services between Vasai and Virar towns, a Western Railway official said.
