Mumbai: Illegal Parkings to Draw Fine Between Rs 5,000 & Rs 15,000; BMC Order Comes Into Effect From Tomorrow
BMC will impose heavy fine between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 on motorists for parking at no-parking zones from July 7. The BMC has also employed ex-servicemen to help to assist the traffic police in case altercations occur between motorists and the civic body officials.
Mumbai, July 7: Motorists in Mumbai now have to pay hefty fine from July 7 onwards for parking their vehicles at no-parking zones. The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) will now impose a fine between Rs 5,000 and Rs 15,000 if their vehicles were parked in no-parking zones within radius of 500 metre of 26 public parking lots (PPL).
The BMC has also employed ex-servicemen to help to assist the traffic police in case altercations occur between motorists and the civic body officials. “There are also 20-odd BEST depots where motorists can park during the day when buses are out. If a vehicle is parked within 500 metre of these depots, the owner will be fined,” said. The civic body will impose fine on offenders particularly in areas of dense congestion and where parking lots are available. To impose this new rule, ward officials have been asked to appoint contractors in their respective areas. According to the report, the civic body has also begun putting up sign boards in no-parking areas.
