Mumbai: House-Help Steals Jewellery Worth INR 8 Lakh in Khar, Gets in Trouble After Posting Stolen Rings on Instagram

A house-help has landed in trouble after posting pictures on Instagram wearing stolen jewellery in Mumbai's Khar.

Mumbai, September 21: A house-help has landed in trouble after posting pictures on Instagram wearing stolen jewellery in Mumbai's Khar. The complainant, Nandita Thakkar, spotted the photos while scrolling on Instagram and immediately alerted the police. Subsequently, she filed an FIR at Khar police station in Mumbai. The accused woman had reportedly worked at Thakkar's house for 9 days while her regular maid was on leave.

According to a report published by Mid-Day, Sanjana Gujar, who worked as a maid for Thakkar at Loknirman Heights in Khar West, allegedly stole approximately INR 8 lakh worth of gold ornaments from Thakkar’s residence. As per the report, Thakkar (49) hired Gujar for nine days between January 12 and January 21 to handle cleaning tasks while her regular maid was on leave. On February 19, while preparing for an event, Thakkar noticed that five gold ornaments and a diamond ring, along with earrings from the cupboard, were missing. Despite searching the entire house, she could not find them. Thakkar questioned her other maids, Shakuntala and Saloni, who denied any knowledge of the missing items. Gujar also denied involvement when contacted, leading Thakkar to initially refrain from filing a complaint.

Gets in Trouble After Posting Stolen Rings on Instagram

On September 10, while scrolling Instagram, Thakkar saw photos of Gujar wearing the stolen rings. This discovery confirmed Gujar’s involvement in the theft. Based on the complaint by Thakkar, the police registered an FIR against the accused. The cops are verifying the Instagram photos uploaded by Gujar. They have sent a notice to the accused, Sanjana Gujar, instructing her to appear for the investigation.
