Mumbai, August 27: In a shocking incident that took place in Mumbai, a senior citizen allegedly stabbed his bedridden wife with a knife in Kandivali. The accused, identified as Vishnukant Ballur, reportedly stabbed his wife nearly eight times using kitchen knives before trying to end his own life. The incident took place in the early hours of Saturday. Police officials said that the couple is stable and recuperating at a hospital. The accused has been booked on charges of attempt to murder.
According to a report in the Hindustan Times, the incident occurred at an apartment complex in Thakur village. Cops said that accused Ballur allegedly stabbed his wife at their home in Kandivali. The officer also said that the accused has to look after his wife after the house help leaves, even though he has his own disability. The officer also said that after stabbing his wife, the accused tried to kill himself but could not stab himself too deeply. The incident came to light when the domestic help found the house locked from inside. When the accused opened the door, the domestic help and a few neighbours saw the woman lying in a pool of blood.
The couple was immediately rushed to a hospital, and even cops were alerted. Police officials said the woman suffered injuries in the back of her head. However, she is out of danger. The accused told cops that he decided to end his own life, but when he realised there was no one to look after his wife, he stabbed her. The couple has a son who has been living abroad for the past 27 years. While the accused has been booked, the police have not made any arrests. "Vishnukant retired as a CEO of a multinational company two decades ago. Since then, not only has his own health been on the decline, but his wife’s condition has also been deteriorating gradually," an officer from Samta Nagar police station said.
