Mumbai, August 8:  At least 45 people have been injured including one person in critical condition after a massive fire broke out at Bharat Petroleum Corporation Limited (BPCL)'s RMP plant in Chembur on Wednesday. According to a tweet by ANI, the level- III fire broke out at a plant in Chembur's Mahul refinery which jolted the nearby buildings. According to the latest update, the fire broke out at Hydro Cracker plant of BPCL refinery and is now under control. The firefighting operation underway.

People took to micro-blogging site Twitter and said that they felt tremors over a km away from the area and noticed some weird blast-like smell in the air. The reason for the explosion is not known as yet. Nearly nine fire tenders, two foam tenders and 2 jumbo tankers present at the spot. No damage to life or property has been reported so far. Reports inform that the blast was so powerful that residents of the buildings ran outside to save their lives.

On Sunday, a major fire broke out on the premises of the regional transport office (RTO) at Tardeo. According to a report by TOI, the blaze took place around 5.20 am and lasted for at least two hours. Reports inform that the fire completely gutted the area that housed the learner's driving licence section located beside a petrol pump.

No casualties were reported in the incident. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. According to a TOI report, the documents, computers and furniture were destroyed but the RTO officials said they have a back-up of records.
