Mumbai, December 19: In a yet another case of misbehaviour, a 25-year-old motorist and his friend sped away in their car dragging a traffic constable for nearly 150 metres to avoid being fined for drink and drive offence. The incident took place in the Thane-Mumbai lane near Mulund toll plaza. The event occurred on Monday night and the accused has been arrested, Mid-Day reported. According to the report, the accused Prathamesh Maharao, a Thane resident, was driving his car in an inebriated state. Near Mulund Toll Naka, traffic constable Balaji Diophode stopped the motorist and asked him to blow on alcometer. As the test came out to be positive, the traffic official asked the accused to show his driving license. The driver asked his friend to take out his license from the glove compartment. While Doiphode was distracted, Maharao accelerated the vehicle. The police constable's hand got stuck in the car and he was dragged for nearly 150 metres. Maharao hit Diophode after which he fell on the road.
The traffic constable was rushed to Veer Savarkar hospital for medical treatment. Meanwhile, Navghar police traced the car by scanning multiple CCTV footage. Maharao was arrested from Thane. An FIR has been registered against him under relevant sections of IPC and Motor Vehicle Act.
