Mumbai: Doctors Remove 2.5-Kg Tumor From 15-Year-Old Boy's Neck and Shoulder After Surgery at Sion Hospital

The doctors said that the teenager had been brought to hospital at the right time as the tumour was growing, with uncertain prospects for the future or serious medical consequences if it was not removed surgically.

Mumbai, October 9: Surgeons of BMC-run LTMG hospital in Mumbai's Sion have successfully removed an enormous tumour weighing 2.5 kg from the neck and shoulder of a 15-year-old boy. The tumour was neither malignant nor caused any breathing problems to the boy. However, the boy's self-esteem was affected due to the appearance of the tumour. After the boy was admitted to the hospital on September 25, a team of doctors comprising of experts from different fields was formed, which performed the successful surgery.

“The boy had a lump since birth, it was growing slowly and did not bother him. When he was admitted, it had grown 22 cms X 30 cms. An MRI scan revealed that it was a network of ‘lymphatic system’ and blood vessels, and this tumour was growing out of the internal jugular vein, the main (blue) blood vessel in the neck,” Dr Mohan Joshi, who is the dean of LTMG hospital, was quoted as saying. Shah Rukh Khan’s Security Upgraded to Y+ by Maharashtra Government After He Allegedly Received ‘Death Threats’.

After a very complex surgery for over 6.5 hours the tumour was removed from the boy's neck. The surgery team was led by Dr Mukund Jagannathan, Dr Mukund Jagannathan, Dr Amarnath Munol, Dr Vivek Ukeerde, and others. The doctors said that the teenager had been brought to hospital at the right time as the tumour was growing, with uncertain prospects for the future or serious medical consequences if it was not removed surgically. After the complex surgery, the massive tumour was finally removed from the boy’s neck-shoulder region, proving a huge relief to the patient. The 15-year-old boy is now recuperating after the major operation.
