Mumbai Division of Central Railway Fare Poorly in All-India Punctuality Performance Rankings
A list released by the Railway Board ranked Central Railway (CR) Mumbai at the 55th spot out of the 69 total divisions. Mumbai CR got a punctuality score of 72.23 per cent.
Mumbai, August 21: Long-haul trains run by the Central Railway's Mumbai division has been placed at the 55th spot out of 69 in all- India rankings for punctuality. The all- India punctuality performance rankings, placed the network low due to the abysmal performance in punctuality of trains running in this division.
A list released by the Railway Board ranked Central Railway (CR) Mumbai at the 55th spot out of the 69 total divisions. Mumbai CR got a punctuality score of 72.23 per cent.
But the Mumbai Central network of the Western Railway did much better in comparison. It was ranked number 6 overall, with 95.15 per cent of its express trains reportedly running on time.
CR’s Nagpur and Pune centres have also featured in the top 10. The highest ranking was obtained by Western Railway’s (WR) Bhavnagar division which achieved 99.35 per cent punctuality for the period between August 13-20.
The report mentioned that CR’s Mumbai division ferries large number of passengers both to and from several cities in Maharashtra. It also aids the passengers from south and north India, and eastern parts of the country.
A senior official was quoted by the paper saying that efforts had been made to improve the on-time record.
According to train data obtained by Mumbai Mirror, which states the comparison to the year 2017-18, the CR Mumbai division suffered a seven per cent drop in performance. The report also mentioned that the performance has dropped from 67.89 per cent, to 60.49 per cent in the first four months of 2018-19.
